Hitchhikers Guide to Exotic Species

Hitchhikers Guide Cover
The MIT Sea Grant Hitchhikers Guide to Exotic Species is a field guide for beachcombers, students and other interested citizens. It is printed on waterproof paper and contains color photographs and information on several introduced marine species and a few native marine species (for comparison). It may be used simply for your information, or to help us track the spread of these species.

Many volunteers and citizen scientists help us track the spread of invasive marine species by looking for them when they are near the water, taking notes and samples, and submitting the information to us through this website.  We hope you will help too!  For more information on the Hitchhikers Guide, including how to get copies, and how to help us track invasive species, see the MassBay Hitchhikers Guide pages (opens new window).

To submit sightings of invasive species, go to the:
Hitchhiker Sighting Submission Form

To view a summary of hitchhiker sighting submissions, go to the:
Hitchhiker Data Summary Page.
